About Black Book Plus

BBP is a Minority and Family owned operated business dedicated to bringing quality African American books and educational materials to our homes.

The President, Tyra Mason-Chekwas is the mother of three wonderful children. A former Ms. Caribbean USA and currently Publisher of Seaburn Books and Black Book News Magazine, she believes in the benefits of education and the empowerment of our people.
In collaboration with her husband, Dr. Sam Chekwas, a dentist and author, they have organized numerous book events and awards, including BIBLIOS Book fair in Queens, NY (in May) and BlackBookExpo in Brooklyn, NY (in September).

Together they have provided thousands of Free books to children, schools and libraries through the Read Aloud NY Program and Paedeia Educational Promotions.

As an active PTA member, Tyra believes that through education, we can create better and strong communities for our families.
